It's almost impossible to tell who actually did it. With out witnesses or proof the police really won't be able to do anything but take a report and should something happen in the future you could prove a pattern. I am really sorry that your tires were popped, I know what a pain that is and the extra cost sucks. I wish you well and peace with this.

Unless the nails are somehow specialized designs, there probably isn't a good forensic source on them. Most common nails are just that, common. Framing nails come in varying sizes (referred to in pennyweight, such as 10d pennyweight).
The police probably can't use the nails retrieve to identify them. Certainly by now, they will not be able to get any useful fingerprints off of them. They also won't likely assist with a tire puncture case.
The tires should be easily repairable (and cheaply) if the nails were in the tread of the tire. If they were in the sidewall, that's a trickier job but still possibily repairable. Sidewall nails are actually harder to get because of the odd angle that the nail would have to enter the tire.
Lastly, think of the people that might be upset enough at you to puncture all four of your tires. Somebody park in your space? a nasty breakup with an ex? co-worker or friend upset about something you did or something they percieved you did?
It's one thing if they just punctured your tires (which is really a nuisance and not necessarily an assault). If they slashed or otherwise ruined the tires, then that is something else entirely.
If you do figure out who popped your tires (and can reasonably prove that they had motive to do so), you can take them to small claims court to recoup the cost of your time and tire repair. But there probably isn't much in criminal law that you could pursue this person(s) under.
That sucks that somebody did this to you.

You're probably out of luck, I hope you took out the warranty when you bought the tires. It was probably only $14. It would hav been so worth it rather than paying another $100 a tire or more, huh? There's no finger prints on nails, and the cops probably aren't going to waste their $2 million of forensics equipment to catch somebody that's wasted your tires. Sorry pal, good luck.

Contact CSI ? You'll never find out who did it unless you get lucky. You can ask around, maybe somebody saw something.

it would be easier to use a knife to slash them, if they're nails maybe you drove over them
