She was definitely Hollywood's blond bombshell in the 50's, she was very misunderstood. from articles I read about her, she just wanted to be needed, and I think that Hollywood exploited her as a sex symbol,
She married two famous men, Joe DiMaggio, star baseball player, that didn't work out, then she married Playwright Arthur Miller, that didn't work out.
Her death is still a mystery, as to whether she took her own life or whether it was foul play, she was invited to the White House a lot in the 60's she supposedly was seen with the Kennedy men more than once, she had been writing a book, or keeping a journal, and their were names on her list that someone didn't want to leak out, it was rather convenient that she died in her sleep.
You picked an interesting subject to write on, but she was known as a SEX BOMB,

she had a profound effect on the minds of American men and women as to what was sexy and when was sexy ok. she didn't really chnge people's concepts of body types, as most women in those days were full figured, especially dancers. was she a sex symbol? yes, but more than that she was proof of what every girl could dream of achieving. born Norma Jean, she died a pop icon, a sex symbol, and a national treasure. the name Marilyn Monroe still holds magic within its letters...

Im going to say that between the conservative mindset that America had enclosed itself into, it sort of brought sex and the idea of a sexual symbol into the spotlight. I mean, she was a little innocent, playful and beautiful.
She was a sex symbol when there werent that many sex symbols.

She was the 1st blond female with genuine dramatic acting abilities and although the studios tried to keep her in sexy comedic roles she branched out & did some serious acting like "The Misfits" directed by her then husband playright, Arthur Miller. She proved that blondes have "great minds & alot of ability when taken seriously" & she fought to prove that & died trying as she was KILLED!!! It was not a suicide! Also, that coming from broken homes with mental genes you can still overcome & perservere. She made "sexy" tasteful, honorable & after her death in 1962 she still makes her mark on the world today!! Thank you...

The impact of her portraying women as sexual and sensual. Until then, women could be beautiful and glamorous, but were not independently sexual - they were always responding to men. In her case, she led and the men responded. A very empowering notion.
Her death brought notice the dangerous side of Hollywood life, making it clear that actresses were just as susceptible as actors.
Her image of a feminine woman was different from the norm - she was not delicate, tiny, fragile, etc. She was an hourglass shape and she was not demure, but confident.

in her day she was a symbol of what every man wanted to be with. she was however a lie. she was not blond nor was she the seductress Hollywood made her into.she had substance abuse issues as well.she is best remembered as a tragic example of excess .she was misguided and let down by most of the people in here life. i would say her lasting impression on me is a wasted life.

Her quality was memorizing, captivating and alluring. As well she had a fabulous sense of timing and loved to laugh...tho held deep sorrow within....always in angst.
She was a calendar girl and her truth of her adoption was public in a day when noone spoke of these things.....the changiong of her name along with a few small adjustments, made her bewitching to look at...and then to everyone's surprise...they realised that she had talent.
She is a legend for her sorrows....and was very alone. her beauty is indefinable and everyine knows her face, and it is imprinted upon most of our souls.
