Are you serious? First of all, a democracy could theoretically be an empire (the British Empire for instance). The two are unrelated! The US tho sends money out to these countries by the billions for much less in return. We actually pay in money & blood for peace & stability. Anyone thinking we try to sieze oil should look at the prices & see if we're getting any benefit. The oil companies are making less per barrel, but on higher demand are processing many more barrels.

The US is a Republic and is closer to being a Democracy by virtue of it being a republic. If the US was an Empire and had Empirical motives we certainly have the military might to become an empire if we wanted to. On that note we are in fact an Economic empire since our influence is so great.

Right now, I think that we are skirting closer to an empire/dictatorship than we ever have before due to the HEAVY consolidation of power in the executive branch under this president.

Hopefully in 2 years we will see some changes (even better, if the House or the Senate becomes democratic after the November elections, this will lead to a better balancing of power).

An empire would conquer and take; just what have we ever taken? Which empire (for comparison purposes) ever rebuilt its enemies with tax dollars from its masses? The United States of America is unlike any group of people ever in the history of man; and as soon as the far left figures that out and works with the right to save it - all will be fine.

It is closer to a Fascist state! Empire would fit though. We seem to be going down the same path as Rome, but at a much quicker pace. It took them 700 years to fall didn't it?
