I have a condition called endometriosis which causes me to have severe cramps, crazy periods, loss of appetite, and other things. My doctor recommended birth control to help control all of the symptoms (and it was an added bonus because I'm sexually active but didn't want my mom to know). Tell your mom about your cramps and see if she'd be willing to support you. My mom was the same way - even though she knew I had a medical problem, she hated the idea of me getting on birth control because she felt it would give me the "wrong impression" about sex and blah blah.

As far as everyone saying birth control can mess you up - that's not true. The Depo shot can certainly mess you up, but birth control? No way. It's just a once a day pill you take that regulates things. It doesn't stop your period, doesn't make you fat, doesn't hurt your insides. If it were that dangerous, there wouldn't be dozens of DOCTOR PRESCRIBED birth control pills on the market. So don't worry about the "precautions" some people are trying to scare you with.

If worse comes to worse and your mom doesn't agree with it, look into some programs to get birth control without your mom knowing. Or have a friend get birth control for herself (pretend) and then use hers. Good luck, hun!

Depending on the state you live in, and your age, just ask your doctor, and pay for the prescription yourself, so it doesn't show up on your parents' insurance. They are not allowed to tell your parents ANYTHING about your visits.
I am sure you have already tried to assure your mom, but she might be scared of what going on the pill will mean. You are smart to think ahead. I hope you also know all the protections to use to help prevent AIDS, an all other STD's Talk to your doctor. If you don't, you know all of this, you need more time before making this most important decision. If you are under 18, just realize having sex so young changes your life drastically. Not everyone is ready for the emotional changes you will experience, some even after 18 are not ready. It is a very special commitment that can only happen once in our lives. Don't take this lightly. Guys are like prisoners, they have nothing but time, and cunning on their hands to get that special moment from you, then they're off to the next conquest.
Boy I could keep going. Last thought marriage is the most beautiful way to experience your first love.

I honestly think that you are being very responsible by wanting to be on birth control and taking the first step in asking your mom. To be completely honest with you I had a child when I was 16 and to this day my mom regrets not putting me on birth control,
and I regret never talking to her about it. I think most moms would rather have their kids come to them and ask for birth control then to have them come home pregnant. As a couple people have already mentioned there are other benefits to birth control besides not getting pregnant such as shorter, lighter periods, less cramps etc. Make a list of the pros and cons and share it with your mom. As a mom I can say I would want my daughter to come to me prepared and ready to have an open conversation. Be honest about any past sexual experiences and let your mom know exactly why you want to be on birth control. Good Luck !!

I think that's a very wise and grown up decision and I wish you the best on talking to your mom. When you do talk to her make sure she realizes that it is a responsible thing for you to make that decision to get on the pill and that you'll be equally as responsible when you make that decision to have sex. Teenagers are going to have sex no matter what their parents say. They can't be under lock and key at all times and it's really nice to know that some are thinking smartly. Be sure to use condoms too because the pill doesn't protect against STDs.

Good luck!!!!

You don't need her permission; you can go to the Health Department if your periods are really bothering you that much. It will probably be good for you to see, and enjoy the pap smear.

However, it really doesn't sound like you're ready for The Pill. Trying to gain weight is no reason whatsoever to start taking a prescription medication. The Pill can cause lots of other side effects (like increasing your risk of blood clots or stroke), and it does not protect against syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, herpes, chancroid, genital warts, or Trichomonas.

Okay you don't want it to sleep with somebody. So what do you need it for? I don't get your question. Birth control can really mess you up. You shouldn't be on that. You may think that no I won't have sex while I'm on it, but you will. Your just a baby, why do you need it?

it comes down to this....birth control is either for protection against pregnancy or help for irregular periods.

Eat more and you will gain weight.

All you have to say is mom i want to be on birth control cause if i do plan to have sex atleast i will be protected from pregnancy and if she says no then tell her you might make her a young mama.

You can go to the health department on your own with any parent and get on birth control. (i did when i was 16)

Its amazing how people don't listen to what you say and those that don't believe you. If you haven't spoke with your mother then you have to do that. And what about your dad don't over look dads some can be very understanding and supportive. Use your resource of people you know and trust if talking to your mom doesn't work maybe someone else could help influence her, good luck.

Maybe you you want to gain more boobs? If you feel you are not yet mature enough you should listen to your mom, but she needs to justify why she;s against it so you'll understand her side. And if you still feel her reasoning is kind of shallow then prove her wrong. Search for the beenefits or sideeffects in the net just to be sure.
