Fullly enlightoned Buddha: Refused heaven, taught till he dropped down, opted a complete oblivion after his parinirvana.
Bodhidharma: Refused to enter heaven opted to take birth again and again till he takes all sentient beings to heaven.
Pacheka Buddha: Not even taught or wandered on streets, believed everyone will reach after the natural course of evolution.
Below all ranks taught, understood to the level of their knowledge, but couldn't escape from going and coming. All religions have these kind of ranks as per my knowledge. I think, when you have the compassion(not selfish love) towards even micro organisms, trees, plants etc, a death and going cannot be seen as going for a suffering, instead it will be to correct the course of evolution and the process of purification. In the process of purification, everyone has to undergo some pain and suffereing. If you call this suffering as hell, and those purified mental condition is heaven, once you reach the purified heavenly, state, you will not be sad of seeing people suffer instead compassionately and patiently, you will be waiting for them to purify and reach your state. But, if you do not get that mental state here, how can you have a higher state later. You will not be there at heaven with that mental condition. You will be happily spending your dissatisfaction-desire state with your relatives at hell.

I am not sure I am deeply spiritual but I guess I believe in God.
I do not believe you are going to Hell just because you have not been "saved" OR that you are going to Heaven just because you go to church each Sunday and ask God to forgive you or your sins.
The God I believe in does not care about ANY of that superficial crap. He was brilliant and powerful enough to create us, therefore I believe he knows what is in our hearts and weather we are good or evil. In other words He knows all our stories. For example, the upstanding community member that abuses his wife yet goes to church each Sunday to ask for forgiveness has less of a chance to get to heaven than a mentally ill person that commits a horrendous crime. God knows if you can control your bad deeds.
A lot of Christians don't believe our pets are in heaven either, as they claim they have no souls. I have asked the same thing as you when told that- How could it be paradise without them?
A few deeply religious friends have said when a family member etc. has passed away, "Don't be too sad, you will see them again one day." THEN they say, for example, if that loved one was your mom, "She won't be your mom in Heaven."
No dogs or cats and I won't know my loved ones when I see them?????????????????? I think I am just going to go on and be the best person I can be in this life!

We shall remember are fond memories and of loves gone by, but not the impure thoughts that made us sin. These would include sorrow, hate, and lust. As humans, we can only get a small consept of what true paradise would be like. If your idea is strickly what you can have on earth, then it couldn't possibly be Heaven since all of our ideas couldn't possibly match.

"Heaven" (or eternal life) is a reward for a truly righteous life (NOT a self-righteous life, like the phony televangelists!). If my loved ones didn't "make the cut" as you say, then that was their CHOICE. We each have to make our own choice and suffer the consequences of our own bad choices. I can't answer for my loved ones, and they can't answer for me. If they choose a path of sin, then that's their problem. I have no difficulty imagining a "heaven" where my loved ones didn't make it. The point is, God doesn't lie, so if he let every sinner into heaven without them first repenting, that would make God a liar. Not THAT I have difficulty imagining!
To the bat freak: Try and relax, okay? Have a nice day ...

Well, since you've never been there, nor felt its presence, how can you speculate what it will be like and expect yourself to be trully accurate? If heaven exists, and it is a 'paradise', then by only stepping into heaven or paradise can you trully know what it will really be like, all else is speculation and a lack of experience of it.

following your train of thought, if hell exists, and you go there ,and your mom and dad and friends are all there, will it stop being hell? your argument hence has just been reduced to absurdity or as they call it in philosophy class, a reductio ad absurdum. this means that your question is not logical and does not deserve a scholarly contemplation. i suggest that you study further so that your future contemplations on life will be more worthwhile. have a nice day.

The premise is flawed.. it presumes we define heaven and paradise based upon earthbound relationships, experiences and reference points.
