I'm 13 and i've been a drummer for five years and it is the best thing that ever happened to me. you should be fine spacewise if you buy a basic 5-piece set. also invest in double braced cymbal stands. the only cymbals you really need are hi-hat, crash, and ride. You can also get an electronic set for more money, but takes up less space. You really miss the feel on electric pads. But yeah, if you know how to play a drum set well, its very fun. Just crank on some music and drum to that. Take lessons, though, you'll be kinda lost. Hope this answers your question. DO NOT GET A PRACTICE PAD SET. PERIOD. they don't have the sound or feel of a drum set and you won't enjoy it.

it is a really fun instrument to play. if you live in a condo, you can get mufflers for the drum heads so you can play undetected. you can also get brushes and rakes so the sound is muffled even more.

Yes...I love 2 play the drumz. I try to think of all the simple beats I can remember as not to hurt my neighbors to bad just beating aimlessly. LOL
