Ask the bride what whether the wedding is formal or not. If the wedding is formal, then you should wear a tux or a really nice suit. If it is not, then you can wear a regular suit.

After 6 wedding- a dark suit, dress shirt, moderatly conservative tie, polished dress shoes and matching belt.
mid afternoon wed- Any suit, slacks or dockers,(khakie is fine) dress shirt, a solid color of your choice, sport coat, accented with a complimenting tie matching your personality, casual dress shoes and matching belt.
outside wed- Khakie dockers, light color dress oxford, tie and sport coat are optional (I usualy suggest a tie even without the coat. It is respectful and easily discarded for the reception. Casual shoes and matching belt.
Always wear dress socks. PLEASE never wear white socks with dress clothes unless your wearing white linen pants and shoes ha ha ha.
I suggest going to a dept. store with a mens dept. and ASK for assistance, thats why they are there. They should be able to look at you and know what they have to compliment your body frame and individuality. You don't have to spend a fortune to look great. If you try something on and it feels wrong, ask for something else to try. You should feel a slight rush when your dressed properly, and your confidence level should be boosted up a notch or two. This should show. Make sure your pant length is correct. One break at the top of the shoe. Get a hair cut or re-shaped if you wear it long. Trim any facil hair(have your stylist do this).Clean and trim you finger nails. Take a tongue ring OUT at the wed. They are offensive to parents and grand-parents. If you have piercings on the face that can be temp. removed, please do this. You will not be compromising your style, you will be showing respect for the couple. And when someone compliments you, smile slightly and say thank-you. Chin -up, Theres just something euphoric about a well dressed man.
P.S. I am a 49 year old woman who does this for a living! Have fun and congrates to your friend.

since your not in the wedding and it's during the summer. A nice short sleeved shirt and dress pants with matching dress shoes is appropriate. Try wearing soft light colors. Or a dark shirt with light pants will work.

If you're the best man then a tux. If you're just a guest- then wear a dark suit, navy shirt, and have the girl at the store pick you out a tie for you. DON'T wear wingtip shoes or "penny loafers"

Not nearly enough information: is it an afternoon or evening wedding? Is it formal or casual? Indoor or outdoor?

it depends on the motif- what's the color to wear, formal or semi-formal, beach or church?!?
and also IF
you are one of the guests who plays an important role of the event.
you should think of that.. just know the motif and what you are in the event.
