We live close to our parents yet no one is that involved with our children. I was wondering if this has occurred in any other families? My MIL only spends time with her other son's children. My FIL is remarried to a younger woman and is too busy for grandkids. My dad doesn't have the patience to be around children for too long. My mom is crazy half of the time. I was practically raised by my grandparents so I just wanted to see if most other children are spending time with grandparents regularly or not.

My children are close to my parents, because my parents have a good relationship with me and my DH. They do not have a close relationship with DH's parents, because MIL wants a relationship with DH, and kids, and wishes I would fall off a cliff. We have cut back severly on that relationship.

My parents and my husbands parents lived less than five miles away for many years, yet they were not involved in my children's lives, for that matter, neither were my grandparents involved in my life.

No matter, learn from their mistakes, grandkids are the best thing that can happen to a person and make middle age and old age wonderful. I see four of my eight grandkids almost every day. I would see the other four as wel, but they live 1200 miles away. We email a lot.
