Why do the people on here spell, type, and write so badly?
Is it not being taight in school, or are people just apathetic and lazy?

I didn't do well at all in high school. Well, only because I was absent a lot and therefore lost credits... but anyway. That's one thing I can definitely say, too... at least I can spell and write a sentence properly. I always use proper grammar and punctuation. I hate it when I'm on Instant Messenger, or something, and my friends are using crazy slang and abbreviations that barely make sense. Or when they talk all "gangster." I can't stand it! Even on IM, just chatting, I always type correctly.

i agree with you, musicman---it boggles the mind.
my wife teaches in an alternative setting. she has male and female students who for one reason or another aren't in the normal school setting---trouble with the law, family problems, bad behavior from their regular school, etc.
some of these kids can't even read on a 4th grade level, much less comprehend what they're reading. asking them to put together a coherent paragraph is beyond their reach.
personally, i think a lot of it is due to schools and teachers not being able to administer discipline anymore. i'm sure a lot will disagree with me, that's their right. all it took for me was to get 3 swats with a paddle in fifth grade and my brief career as a smart alec suddenly died.
what's really spooky is that these kids are the future of our country. sheesh

apathetic and lazy is probably a correct assumption---but i also think alot of people just don,t type that well-- taight is spelled--taught!!--nice strat!!!

Teachers aren't miracle workers, and some students simply cannot be "taight".
