The Shah was installed into power by the US.
"President Carter inherited an impossible situation -- and he and his advisers made the worst of it." Carter seemed to have a hard time deciding whether to heed the advice of his aggressive national security advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, who wanted to encourage the Shah to brutally suppress the revolution, or that of his more cautious State Department, which suggested Carter reach out to opposition elements in order to smooth the transition to a new government. In the end he did neither, and suffered the consequences.
Here's a full description of what happened.

I can not give you any resources other than common since. Carter made some bad moves and blunders as president but not completely stupid, moron moves that are Un-American. Over throwing the Shah to put in the Ayatollah is completely counter productive for our government and un-American. The Shah worked with our government and repressed the terrorist extremist types. His methods were unorthodox and it was those unorthodox methods that was his undoing, not Jimmy Carter. Think about what these guys are telling you and ask yourself, does that make any since?

Yes, sad but true! Carter forced the Shah into exile in favor of
Ayatollah Khomeini!! Another reason Carter was probably our worse pres.
