That depends on how much rain you get, how hot it is and what type of soil you have. If you dig down a couple of inches in the soil and it is dry then you need to water.

If they are mums in pots and pans, may be a small crop for re-sale later in the season...well if they were rooted cuttings once a day and keep them shaded for a while. If they are bare root cuttings, direct stick..mist then several times a day and shade them and warm the soil until roots break. Then cut back on water and heat to once a day water,no heat.
If the mums are just in your garden for fun water and feed with the rest of the garden, nothing special, except in NEW ENGLAND! around the 4TH of JULY, CUT them back, It will thicken them up and cause them to bloom in the fall not be tall scraggly and a few blooms in early SEPT.

Check them every other day when they are new in the ground or pot. Once established in the ground, watering once per week has been enough around here, depending upon the rainfall.

If they are outside I never water them unless we have a very extreme dry spell.
