I think that the best science in the world is meteorology and oceanography.

These are two fields that incorporate everything- chemistry (air and water interactions), physics (air parcel interactions, wind, momentum), biology (how things interact with weather and oceans), and all of the basic sciences, the mathematics of fluid dynamics, and so forth, while studying a system that nobody still understands.

The fact of the matter is that weather and climate are things that impact everybody in everyday life. Never a day passes that someone doesn't complain about the weather in some facet, yet we still know exceptionally little about exactly how things work. That's why I start my PhD in atmospheric science this fall, and will be recieving my master's later this summer.

Even in the two fields, there is so much to understand. For my master's thesis, I'm modelling the climatic controls in Peruvian glaciers. For my PhD, I'll start working on how aerosols (dust, soot, etc) figure into how weather works. All of this is applicable in some sense to a larger picture, yet all of the science is just as hard as figuring out why the planets move in such a way.

It is entirely possible that we'll never quite be able to figure out why weather acts the way it does, do to chaos theory. but, i attempt to try.

Astromomy most, math least. Astromomy ( not astrology ) is the gateway to larger things. Many facinating things in astromomy.

I enjoy chemistry... it's neat to learn what things are made of and how things react... i hate physics... I just can't grasp it.
