Netscape was the original internet web browser, back when Bill "Micrsoft" Gates was confident that the Internet would never go anywhere. When it became apparent he was wrong, Microsoft introduced Internet Explorer and integrated it inso Windows so that it was impossible to run Windows without IE. Did this to try to force Netscape out of business.

Resulted in several law suites against Microsoft, that forced them to have to include "Program Access Options" with all current versions of WIndows so you can disable IE, and other Windows components, if you do not want them as your default.

The creators of Netscape also run a Google/Yahoo like site (Netscape, com) and are the creators of the Firefox browser.

Netscape used to make a web browser very similar to Internet Explorer. In the 1990's there was what was called the "Browser Wars" in which both netscape and internet explorer competed for market share, obviously internet explorer won hands down. Netscape then evolved into a web portal and was eventually bought out by AOL. There is still a Netscape browser if you are looking for a Internet Explorer alternative. There are two flavors the Mozilla version and the Netscape version which is simply the Mozilla browser with some added goodies for Netscape users.

Netscape has been around for a long time and it's got a pretty good history. I use it in conjunction with IE Explorer because sometimes it loads up better.

Download it for free and check it out if you wish to see the offers givens.

I for one can say it is pretty stable and I enjoy using it more than IE because of the tab screens for pages visited.
