The outlets have 2 silver screws on the left, a green screw at the base and 2 gold on the right. PLEASE HELP!!!!

You have the wrong switch. You have a 3-way switch and you need a single pole switch. The single pole switch will have 2 brass colored screws on one side and a green screw on the other side. The single pole switch will also read on / off on the toggle part of the switch.

Before you begin make sure the power to the circuit you are working on is off. Use some type of voltmeter to verify the circuit is off.

To make up the switch; twist your white wires together and put a wire nut on them and tuck them back into the box. Wrap 1 black wire around each brass colored screw on your switch and install the switch.

The receptacles (outlets) silver colored screws are for the neutral or white wires, the brass colored screws are for the hot or black wires and the green screw is for the ground or bare copper wire.

The first answer is scary. Never just "wrap wires together".

Need more background. I'm not sure if the other answer is right either, but depends how you got to this point. It doesn't make sense if you just removed a switch and want to put in the new one. Explain how you got to having a box with 2 white, 2 black, and 2 ground in need of a switch.

wrap the two copper wires together so that about an inch of one of them is longer, then hook that end to the green screw

I agree with gilchirstele, it sounds like you have the wrong switch.Tell the nice (dumb) people at Home Depot that you need a single pole switch.
