Prostitution What an ugly word. Other names I have heard are Ladies of the Night, Working Girls, Escorts and many other not as ugly as prostitutes.

In the United States, the most powerful country in the world, you will encounter this problem as well. So, I can not use the excuse of poverty, because it is not poverty that lures women and men into prostitution.

There are many different reasons why people chose this profession. The need for money is probably the most common one. But this is not limited to money alone; there are also other important factor that contribute to the decision of offering sexual services to strangers for money. Economical, Moral and Social lifestyles play a big role in these decisions.

In a country where young women are frown upon for being single mothers or have not conserved their virginity for marriage, it is not uncommon for these girls to go looking for help outside of their social circle. Many time these girls are targeted by people who are only looking to make money off of them and lure them into this type of lifestyle. Young girls, who have no experience in the work force, live in poverty and have experience lost of face, most likely will end up as working girls in bars or on the streets. It is not the poverty that got them there alone, but the lack of social support.

The Philippines is no exception. Many of these working girls have suffered from emotional disillusions from men that have used then and abandoned them to their own luck. The high demand for temporary female companions and the poor economical situation they are usually left to deal with on their own, contributes to their decision. In some cases these girls have children to take care all on their own. The money involved in this line of work usually surpasses that of a regular job, where they will probably suffer some type of sexual harassment anyway.

Even on the High Social ladder you will find young women involving themselves in Escort Services to help support their expensive habits. In some cases this does not necessarily means they are dependent of drugs, it is mostly inclined to their expensive lifestyles.

Girls coming from poor homes, are encourage by their own families to go outside of their communities to look for work and help the family. Usually finding themselves desperate without a job they can afford to send enough money home to help their family. In this situation they are lured into this type of work because of burden placed upon them to help their families.

So to be more specific to the answer;
Women are given a big burden to help their family and less of an opportunity to socially prosper after making certain moral mistakes and in hopes to make a better way of life under their current situation mistakenly involve themselves in PROSTITUTION.

It is not only in the Philippines that there are so many prostitutes. We should face the fact that it is an ancient profession, even before the time of Christ. It is correct when you say poverty is the main cause but prostitution sometimes is the last option for some desperate souls. To say that Filipinos are less educated and the reason for rampant prostitution, is seemingly less accurate. Even if the county has a hundred percent literacy rate and yet employment rate is low, you can not expect this indecent job to be faced out. As long as the Philippines belongs to third world country, you may be keep on asking the same question.

Because the Catholic church will not face facts and teach people to use birth control. Too many people in one area. Not enough jobs for them. Prostitution is every place on earth. Some places it is in the open and some places it is hidden.

It is one of the only jobs that a uneducated woman can get there, and as it's looked down upon to get one(an education), prostitution has been around for such along time it's not really looked down upon, many of them have families that they need to support, and there own husbands encourage them to prostitute themselves.
also allot of American soldiers feed that "trade"....
(there are allot of air/ navel bases there)
It's really sad. prostitution is everywhere in the world, it breaks my heart what these women are forced, or that they feel they have no other choice, to do. sadly child prostitution is extremely common there also....

Well..... No simple Answer. So many reasons so little time.

One thing I could say,is that, I would hope that it's the girls choice whatever the reason may be.

I can tell you thousands of cases were, the girls are tricked into thinking they will go to japan,Korea and other countries with a job singing or as a maid...have their passports taken and forced into the sex slave trade for years.
Some commit suicide or are killed and go home in a coffin.

most of the population in the 'pinas are very poor. i should know, i live there! if they're poor, they can't afford to get an education. if they can't get an education, it limits job choices; what they can do. prostitution is both easy and a moneymaker. they turn to this usually as a last resort, when they really can't do anything else.
