Ok, the first thing I'm going to ask you... there is a light that sometimes is labeled "CABLE" in some other cases is labeled "ready" and is suppoused to stay solid lit. if in your case it blinks every now and then, or sometimes is off, that means that you are not receiving enough signal, let me ask you, did it ever work ok before? if yes, did you move your computer from one room to another? there is your problem, because cable modems must be connected to a first splitter, and that condition is only true for ONE cable outlet at a time... in any case, you just need to call your cable ISP and they will send someone and check on the signal levels, and the conditions of your cable, in some cases it depends even of the squirrels that have been eating up your wire... not making sense? save yourself a lot of trouble, call your cable co... I work for one in Houston TX, and I know exactly what a pain to the customer is when there is poor signal to their modems.

you might want to verify that the modem is working properly. Also, that your NIC card (network card) is working properly as well. To test your NIC, try pinging it by going to the RUN command, typing in CMD, and then typing PING 127.0.0.1 , this should show 4 returns that are successful. IF that works well, try RESETING your modem and router if you have one. Unplug the power and ethernet cable, wait 10-30 seconds, then plug them back in. If all this fails, talk to your internet provider. They may have problems with their service or servers.

Cable speeds fluctuate depending on the number of people on in your area. If it faster during off peak times then it is your cable if not it is something else like your computer or router perhaps.

hmm. I had that problem with my cable internet so I got rid of it. I went to another company and got slow service, turns out it was their wireless router! Call and complain. Are you sure your computer is OK????
