Is there a good software update that will allow me to write cd's so that I can view the video clips and still images on my DVD player

"RW stands for Readable-Writable. This means your computer can both read informatioin off CDs and DVDs as well as write to both these media types." no you cant write to both. you can only burn cd's and read dvd's. CD-RW u can ReWrite cd's just like floppy disks with RW media.

I suggest you get a good book at the book store which will teach you all you need to do projects such as this. One good book I used often is Windows XP Inside Out by Ed Bott and a couple other people who co-authored it with him. I found a lot of really good information and learned really quickly.
There are other good books as well, shorter, with pictures and step by step instructions. Some are less expesive others more expensive. Good luck.

Yes, only view DVD.
Lots of software to record on CD and can be played back on your DVD/CD player. Digital is still digital...so quality is always there.
