Hi,
I did as somebody advice to avoid spyware which I suspect I am a victim of but I for sure do not know; but I have been getting too much bulk mail from strangers which before I did not get; my windows XP turned out to be counterfeited but to save my information I followed what they adviced here.
To update ad-Aware, which I could do. Spybot Search and destroy I could not do in safe mode; it says is not possible and when wanting to backup files it did not responded; it said it cannot do it on safe mode.
Where do I find Windows defender. And Spyware blaster?
I did clean somethings and it scanned over 150 things that is said were bad in my computer.
How do I go to Management Console?
I tried to do a backup of my files but it failed, it did not take the times I tried it. thanks

Listen, you need some help from somebody who has a lot more experiance with computers than you have right now. Do not go into utilities you do not know how to use properly as you can do irreparable harm to your system. These utilities are indended for those with a lot of experiance, not for novice users. OK? This is really important.

You can use a new Microsoft program which you can get to at:

http"//www.safety.live.com

You do not need to use this scan in safe mode. Do the full scan. This scan will check for Viruses, spyware, and other safety issues, it will check your registry for broken liinks, files, orphaned files and shortcuts and basically get rid of a lot of junk. It will also recommend dumping temp files you do not need any more. It will then do a check on ports and offer to do a defragmentation for you. This is a great scan and it is completely free to use. After you do the full scan and follow the directions for getting rid of all the junk accumulated on your system, you can go back and do she shorter scans as needed. Do the full scan once monthly.

Now, Microsoft is offering it Live Safety program for free right now. Download the program and it will keep your system protected from viruses, spyware, trojans, worms, keyloggers, and other nasties, it will also provide a more comprehensive firewall, backup services, and system recovery services. This is a great program and Microsoft really nailed this one down. I suggest you go get it and install it as soon as possible.

You can get Windows Defender at the same place, the Micosoft downloads site. However, with the other program you really do not need this one. If having a pirated copy of Windows makes it impossible to get the Live Safety Program, then download and install Windows Defender. But not if you can get the safety center.

It is too bad you have an illegal copy of Windows. I do not know how this occured without your knowing, but those who pirate OS's make life harder on those of us who get our copies legally. Due to pirating, small business owners, and home users have to go through a horrid acivation of our OS, and if we make too many changes to our hardware Microsoft thinks we are up to no good and shuts down our OS untill we call them, explain what we are up to, and then Microsoft has us go through the activation process all over again. This is a horrid situation to have to deal with and it is unfair as large corperations do not have to go through any activation, which I do not understand as they have hundreds if not thousands of computers and they would be far more likely to place unliciensed copies on computers than a small business or a home user. Anyway, I am sorry you have an illegal copy and are having a hard time with the updates. I hope you are not the one who placed it on your system though, as then that means you stole your copy or abtained it in another illegal method.

I am assumming you did not know your copy was not legit though, giving you the benifit of the doubt here. So, work with what you have, but stay out of the utilities you do not know how to use properly or you may crash your system. Perhaps that would not be a bad thing, as then you could reformatt your hard drive and install a legit copy of Windows. But you would need help doing this as you are not experianced enough yet. You could get a good book and learn that way. Good luck with your system and Internet Security.

to get to the management console, got to the Start button, find the RUN icon and type in MMC. This brings up the console. HOWEVER, unless you know what your doing, I would not mess around in here. Also, you cannot do much in SAFE MODE. It is designed to use only the most necessary drivers and equipment. I suggest getting a pop up blocker as well. The yahoo pop-up blocker has worked great for me. AVG also has a decent one. Also, AVG has a great antivirus program and always updates on its own.
