I'm a student that has turned 16 recently so I was wondering which one I had to get first...the job or the work permit?

That can be different from state to state. I know that in one state (NY?) you had to get the job first--then you'd go for the permit, they'd give you a physical, and look at the kind of work you'd be doing. That was several years ago, don't know if it's changed. You can call your state employment office or the Teen Work Program.

You need to get a work permit first, at least that's how it was when I was 16.

When you interview for a job the will tell you to go get it, don't bother till then.
