Let the number be N,

If 2 is subtracted from a number,

N - 2

And this difference is Tripled,

3 x (N - 2)

The result is 6 more than the number (we add 6 to the number so that we can get an equation),

3 x (N - 2) = N + 6

Find the number. Solving,

3N - 6 = N + 6

3N - N = 6 + 6

2N = 12

N = 6 (ans)

let X be the unknown number

(X - 2)*3 = 6 + X

mulitply in the digit 3 into the bracket equation (X-2)

3X - 6 = 6 + X

Bring all the X to one side.Bring the Digits to another side.

3X-X= 6 + 6

simplify:

2x = 12

To Find X:
X=12 /2
X= 6

okay first start out by writing the equation
3(n-2)=n+6, then use distributive property on the left side
3n-6=n+6, subtract n and add 6 to both sides
2n=12, divide by two
n=6

3(x-2)=x+6
thus 3x -6 = x+6
or 3x= x+12
or 2x = 12
thus x =6
in retrospect 6-2 = 4 -> 4*3 = 12 which is 6 more than 6
