from what ive heard, the way apple formats the ipod, they make it so that it can hold less. I think a lot of people pay for the apple logo, it's become somewhat of a status symbol.

I got an iPod two Christmases ago. when it finally put all my songs onto it and started using it a lot, it was horrible! It broke every three months, even though I took great care of it--it ended up costing more in repairs than it cost originally.
Now I have a Walmart MP3 player and it hasn't broken once. So yes, with Apple you pay for the logo but get a flimsy, easy to break, not-well protected product that will either become quickly outdated or broken. But that's just my opinion.
My friends have all had much better experiences with theirs, so maybe I'm wrong.

iPod's hold a lot of songs, you won't find to many mp3 players that will hold that many songs for any less money. Also its easier to get to the music you want to listen to on an iPod because of how everything's arranged and there are so many different ways of organizing it. Trust me, I have both an iPod and an mp3 player. The only problem with iPods is they're not very durable, they break really easy and when the battery dies it costs almost as much to replace it as it does to buy a whole new iPod.

in my opinion apple sucks but an ipod is a good product. it matters what kind of computer you have if you have an mac or apple i pods are easier to put music on. but if you have a windows mp3s are easier. if you get a mp3 with a sd slot you hold a ton more music. but it all matters what type of computer you have.
i have a san disck sensa it is arraged pretty much exactly like an ipod and you can add a sd for more memory. 512 mb built in. hasnt broken 50$

While yes the ipod is something of a status symbol, Apple products are extremely well made. I've been using them my entire life, actually.
