Our society isn't irreligious- that is something that SOME Christians like to say so they can be whiny martyrs. America is a mostly Christian country and it has permeated every aspect- even our laws. Catholics defy the pope all the time. We all know that the war was a scam, but Christians all over still support Bush. Our country is over it's head in this war, and it's not going to end any time soon. No one is triumphing here. Do you actually think that Atheists care if Catholics defy the pope? Well, we don't.

Your Question assumes too much for it to be taken seriously on an intellectual level.
For one thing, you ASSUME Catholics have defied the Pope, but they have not because the Pope's comments were not infallible. Second, you ASSUME President Bush 'scammed' everyone for oil - but you don't know that. If that's your opinion, you're welcome to it. But it is reckless to treat opinion as fact.
Lastly, you proclaim Bush's actions as "a triumph for an irreligious society"; another opinion that, frankly, makes no sense whatsoever.
Here's my opinion: I don't think you are asking a questiong. I think you are using Yahoo Answers as a place to make crazy proclaimations that have no basis other than your opinion.
The legitimacy of the Iraq War is a legitmate topic for discussion and debate - but only if you approch the subject with some semblance of intellect. No one with any semblance of geo-political knowledge is going to take you seriously.

While the Pope declared the conflict in Iraq does not fit the Catholic definition of a 'just war,' Catholics are free in this type of situation to make decision according to their consciences.
Believe it or not, a Catholic can be 100% faithful to the Church and not agree with everything the Pope says.
We are only bound when he is teaching on matters of faith and morals.

American political parties do not give Catholics much to root for.
Republicans are pro-life about abortion but not the death penalty. They don't seem to support social justice issues concerning the poor and minorities.
Democrats do better with social justice, but are pro-choice and support assisted suicide.
Politicians of both parties voted for the "unjust" Iraq war.
Some Catholics feel strongly about abortion and vote Republican.
Some Catholics look at the big picture and decide that overall the Democrats are aligned on more issues.
What is a Christian Catholic to do?
With love in Christ.

Ummm, if they're Catholic, they're not "irreligious" so the question makes no sense.
Second, where's the oil scam? Do you see the oil being imported from Iraq? No? Where, then, is the scam? If you do some research, you'll see that all of Iraq's oil is being exported to Germany, France, and Russia ... NOT the U.S.

Hmm, let's see...A war for oil? Yep, I've heard that before. Now let me get this right. We've been in Iraq for three years, don't ya think we'd have gotten the friggin' oil if by now if that was what we were after? Why is the price of gas at an all time high if we were in a war for oil?
Ignorant people, who have no knowledge of current events, use that excuse and it never ceases to amaze me that three years have gone by and STILL many Americans don't pay attention. Amazing!

Which society is irreligious? The founding fathers of the American society were mostly very devout Christians.. You might be taking this separation of church and state thing to literally. It is not the eradication of religion. It the non interference by government in they way people choose to worship.

The pope is generally against all wars. Also the pope opposes gay marriage and abortion which are very important issues to republicans.
