The American Black Bear, though smaller than Grizzly Bears and Polar Bears, is responsible for more attacks on humans than any other bear. Bears generally don't attack people unless it is a sick or wounded animal, starving to death, protecting its cubs, or if it has been fed by humans or been in contact with human beings before in some way. A Black Bear can weigh several hundred pounds and be five feet tall. It is a very dangerous animal to engage in a confrontation with. Its best to keep all food sealed tight so as to not attract bears in the first place.
