Hurling is the fastest, most skillful field game in the world. 2 teams of 15 players each. Each player has a 'hurley stick' which is ash and shaped somewhat like a hockey stick only with a much larger bottom. The ball is called a sliother, hard and leather bound. The object of the game is to get the ball into the opponents net for a goal or over the crossbar for a point. A goal is 3 points! The goals are just like football posts but with a net beneath the crossbar, defended by a goalkeeper. Each game lasts 70 minutes with 35 minutes each half. All hurling comes under the umbrella organisation of the GAA(Gaelic Athletic Association). Exciting to watch now that the national championship is in full swing!!

Hurling is a gaelic game (played in Ireland and Scotland mostly) that is something like lacrosse. It's very active, very strenuous, and lots of fun to watch, as well as to play.
