Father has late stage lung canger and cannot move around much. Thanks so far for ideas, some of which confirms what I already know to do (and have somewhat)

I have not looked at any of the other answers. This is my take on it. I remember when my son and I used to sit and just watch tv he was small enough to still sit on my lap and those were the days that I cherish the most. No words were needed we just sat together and were at peace.
Find a way you can hold him for long periods of time it will bring a peace that you would never imagine.
THis would be my dying wish.
I have sacrificed a great deal for my son and he is the world to me even though in his later years he is just a teenager and very distant. He will always be my little son.

A memory book. Take a photo album, write some letters to him telling him how you feel, then get other family members to do the same, also take pictures of everyone and put in the book. You could even, better yet, make a video (you can borrow or rent a camera) make a video of everyone he loves, go to his old work or favorite hang out and video tape them. You could make your own script, get other family and friends to participate. It will not only touch him but it will let him know that he is leaving his family knowing that they will be ok and that they love him. Then you could share it later on in years with grandchildren so that they know who he was, what he was like.

I would say to just spend the day with him. Spend as much time as you can with him. That will give you both wonderful memories. Sorry to hear about your father dieing, thats really hard. My father passed away 3 years ago.

Take him out to eat and just spend time with him. Make sure that he has a great time though. You will be so happy if you make it a memorable Father's Day that he will remember even after he is gone.

If he is still able to get out and do things , you could surprise him by taking him and perhaps the rest of your family to his favorite place and spend time with him doing something he really enjoys. I am a Dad, and this is something I would enjoy with my family befor I die: Dig out the old family photos and talk about the memories and laugh and enjoy just being together.

Ask him what he wants to tell you to help you in your future life if he isn't around. Also, life stories, entertaining stories, etc. Listen to him, ask good questions. Maybe take notes. He probably loves you and just wants to pass on what he knows. Knowing that you will do well and have a good life is the best he could get.

Is there anything he has always wanted to do? anywhere he has always wanted to go? talk to your mom. I'm sure she knows something. Or maybe do something with him that you normally never would. take him Golfing, or host a family poker tournament. Just make sure he really understands how much you love him

I think that the best thing for you to do for him is just to talk. Tell him that you really do love him. He's ur dad, he probably already figures that you do anyways, but who cares. It's nicer to here it from the person. Good luck w/ ur dad and god bless him

I think that you should take him wherever he wants, let him enjoy his last days...make sure that you buy something that you hints he wants. Tell him how much he means to you, knowing that you are loved can help a real lot.
