There are hardly any social phenomena that can be considered identical from one social and historical context to the other. The problem is, sometimes it takes a specialist to distinguish them. American and South African forms of racism are very different from those suffered in South America, mainly because the former where institutionalized and rendered into law. Still, you could say that "most people tend to discriminate others" that is, look at them as inferior due to race, sex, country of origin, etc.

It's a very bad comportment but, for sure, it's universal. The question is not if the racism is universal, but the real question is : " The philosophial behavior of the human being with other member of his species did really change since 4000 years ?"

I believe it is in us all to some degree. It's part of Human nature. I also believe that the policies of Western Governments are divisive and exclusive. This polarises our societies which leads to multi-layered, socio/economic populations and this gives rise to bigotry, racism and a dislike for those not like yourself or your peers. Jules, Australia.
