Are you asking about homosexuality or just being alone without a partner in life?
If you are asking about homosexuality, my answer could get lengthy. Today, more than ever, homos are coming out of the closet and society is more accepting of this. Also, some people, (mostly women) are "gay" because it's some sort of fad. These people are usually not gay for long and eventually go back to being straight after they've had their fun. However, there are actually REAL homos who are born the way they are.
As for people wanting to be alone and independent without a life partner, I think that it is also more common in today's society. Women don't need a man to support them financially or otherwise. I cannot answer for the reason men want fewer women.
My answer is short, but I hope it is helpful.
