I am a 24 year old healthy female. I ws on birth control for 4 years and have been off of it for about a year and a half. For the last 6 months or so, I have been on my period almost every day. I will have the period for about 2 weeks--usually light but still noticeable, then it will go away for two or three days, I will then get the period back for several more weeks and follow the same cycle. I dont have health insurance and havent been able to afford to see a gynecologist. What could be causing such a constant period?

Many things. You could have a really bad hormone imbalance, fibroids or endometriosis. You have GOT to see a doctor. This could be quite serious. Can you qualify for state run health care or perhaps you could call Planned Parenthood to see if they can see you or refer you to program that can. Get this checked out right away!

I had that happen to me too, I was on birth control for 2 years though. When I stopped, I got ovarian cysts and fibroids, they can make you bleed anytime if they break or tear. Hormones can mess you up pretty bad too. You really need to go to a free clinic, planned parenthood is free http://local.yahoo.com/results?fr=iy-text-lcl-res&stx=planned+parenthood at the bottom of this page type your city and zip code in and it will tell you locations you can go. You need to be checked for cysts, fibroids, anemia due to the bleeding, and then probably if things are ok there, be put on a regulatory hormone to make your body think it's pregnant for a month to try to correct the hormone imbalance. I think I was on provera for a month and after that I was still a little off but eventually regulated back ok.

I had the same problem. Your hormones are imbalanced, but I turned anemic and almost bled to death. You need your iron levels tested to make sure you are replenishing your blood fast enough. Some hormone medicines can do more harm then good. Eat liver, red meats, spinach or take a low dose iron pill, a little extra iron won't hurt anybody. Iron can cause constipation, so get fiber in your diet.

My god girl..Have you went to your OB/GYN to get checked up? it sounds serious.I went through a condition where I bled lightly for 6 weeks straight before my GYN told me I had polycystic ovaries. which is what i did not want to hear as i am trying to have children.

If you can not afford to see a doctor, can you go to your local family planning clinic or ask to see if you can make payments to a reguar GYN?
Dont go any longer with this condition.Get checked up asap.If you want, you can email me at @yahoo.com.
Best wishes

It can be a variety of things one of them being a severe hormonal dis-balance. I would also suggest you go to a free clinic and get yourself checked. Long periods may also cause you to be anemic ( ask them if they can also check your iron ...)
Best of luck to you.
