Stay away from Laptops.
If you are serious about gamming Laptops are not the way to go.
They produce way to much heat and are hard to upgrade. For around $600 You can get a pre built system with a 200 GB Hard Drive. 1 gig of Ram A DVD/CD Burner An AMD 3500+ processor.
But whatch out for the ATI or Intergrated Graphics. YOu can get a nice video card for arouns $150 more if you buy one with Intergrated Graphics in it.
Check out www.newegg.com if you want to build your own or looking for a video card.

I personally prefer the HP Pavilion PC, I've had one for 3 years now and I love it, I also own a Dell but it is an older one but it still works ok it's just slower than the HP.

Just get one of these two: choice #1- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883103004 or better yet, choice #2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883103003 Then, all you'll have to do is add whatever PCIe video card you can afford (get at least an nVidia 7600GT or an ATI X1800XT), and you'll be set.

If you want a desktop, save some money and build one yourself on newegg.com and learn from it. You can get a very good computer for cheap if you put it together yourself.
