It is technically a sport. But you don't have to be a real athelete to play it. I saw a debate on ESPN once about who is more of an athelete: Lance Armstrong or Tiger Woods. Tiger is awesome because of his skill and technique, not so much because of his athleticism. What a stoopid argument that was. Lance is a real athelete.
What's funnier, is that there were people who were trying to get CHESS into the Olymics as a sport. I almost fell outta my chair laughing. You could play chess with a broken arm and a broken leg. At least you need both arms and both legs for golf.
So yes, golf is a sport. But any fat turd could get off the couch and play it.

I do because it is competitive, and people watch them play. Mind you its boring but competitive en ought to be a sport. the lowest if you ask me. What's so great about putting a little ball in a hole.? lol
