You must remember me asking about blowing up Mars.. read on?

Question

Last month i asked "if U.S. could build a Super Weapon, don't you think it wouldn't blow up Mars?"

Sad thing guys.. i think what the U.S. is gonna do is worse.. blowing up the the Moon.. the reason? Mining.

Exactly.. our one and only Moon is believed to have a control of most of the Earth's elements.. and think of the debris..

Fortunately, neither the US nor any other country possesses technology anywhere even close to sufficient to blow up something the size of the moon. If they did, they'd probably blow up Earth first.

Also, mining the moon for minerals would not be economically feasible, whether the moon is smashed to bits or not.

Hey the government can hide anything so the super weapon thing is possible. Think about osama bin laden is still hiding and he's from a third world country. We are the greatest nation on earth and you think the government can't hide a weapon capable of blowing up a giant rock. anyway to answer the question I think the government will mine the moon eventually, but it isn't economically feasible at this point to fund such a project. After the moon, mars will probably be next on the strip mining list. Next thing the moon does have all of the same minerals as earth including gold and other precious medals. Granted, it doesn't have organic minerals,(i.e. coal and oil) but earth is quickly running out of precious medals like gold. I mean the government can only hold so much before there isn't any left in the ground. So to summarize no the government won't blow up the moon just mine it, but only if they can economically transport the minerals back. I mean 30 million is an awful lot just to get some gold

I think you're dreaming. It would be much easier and cheaper to mine the asteroids and use the moon as a base. And the government is aware of this. The moon has the same elements as the earth, and pretty much in the same proportions. There's no reason to blow up the moon, and it would be difficult because of the size. It's not as small as you seem to think.

You need to think this through.

Firstly, the 'weapon' needed to blow up the moon would be far beyond any technology we have, secondly, the moons minerals consist mainly of basalt, common as anything here on Earth, thirdly, the resulting gravitaional and tidal effects on the Earth would be catastrophic, fourthly, we are trying to catalogue as many near-earth objects as possible... why create a million or so more, right on our doorstep?

Unfortunately, Dr. Alexander Abian, the United States lead proponent for blowing up the moon, is dead. This probably means that the terrible moon will not be ever blown up in the near future. I did hear about an idea of launching giant hunks of ice at the moon as a water source for future colonies. I also heard about some insane theory of launching stuff at the sun to keep it burning when it becomes a red giant to avoid it swallowing us up.
