The world's longest word is pneu -mo -no -ultra -micro -scopic -silico -volca -neosis. I have to break it up because if you type this continuesly, there is an elipses and you wouldn't understand it. This word has 41 letters and 9 syllables. So it is the longest word in the English language.

If you doubt the credibility of that, then try floccinaucinihilipilification.
However, there are other words, often scientific,such as complex chemical names, that can be longer. Whether that counts as English is in the air.
