I just posted a question about grammar and I had an onslaught of responses. I realize that we don't have editors at our disposal or walk around with dictionaries.
I am talking about grammar and punctuation so bad that the meaning of what you are trying to say is lost. As my university professors used to tell us, "The only way you could fail an essay due to bad grammar and spelling, is if the errors are so bad that the meaning of your essay is lost." This is what I am talking about.
I do realize that kids write questions, but a lot of the questions that were the target of my previous rant are questions that kids should not be asking.
If you are writing a couple of sentences, I believe that you should be able to catch your mistakes. If you address somebody, you should be able to spell their name right. If that's too much to ask, then I apologize.
I'm not sure where I made my spelling error, but good eye on the person who picked out the spell checking error. See?

I guess my question is, are any of us perfect? Is that an excuse for not trying?

My first thought is that Yahoo Answers is only in English right now - and there are likely to be folks who do not have English as a primary language trying to participate. I think that accounts for some of the really unintelligible ones - but I sure respect them for trying. I know a little bit of German, but I sure don't have the guts to actually try to converse with people in that language - and the one time i had an opportunity to use what little I do know, I totally froze and was useless.

Secondly I think that yes - a lot of teens and kids on here are use to a short hand lingo speak, or have not yet learned the importance of grammar. For those I am so glad they participate because people like you (and lot others) will call them on it. They will begin to learn that if they want to communicate in society, they have to do it in a way that we all understand or they will be ignored and sometimes ridiculed.

The lazy adults that we see (frankly can be so creative in their use of letters - I C U N U R O K) are usually understandable. So while yes, it can be annoying the time we waste trying to decipher the hyroglyphics of our fellow Answers Fans, it is really wonderful in it's own way.

Peace.

We are not being graded by uni profs. or teachers here. We are probably in a hurry and take short cuts.
There are people who can help you with your angst. Have a cup of herbal tea and put your feet up.

one only has to read what you wrote to realize if you made a grammatical error it proves you are not perfect. otherwise i would not reply to your post in fear of being chastised

No offense but: We read your opinion loud and clear the first time.
Why do you feel the need to express it again, and again and again???
