Because they want to be comfortable and pain-free as long as possible. Yes, everyone dies, but you don't have to be uncomfortable in the meantime.

Because there is something called life, which lies between birth and death. When you're living life you know you only get one shot at it, so you want to make the most of it. Plus, you want to be remembered for being this fantastic person who lived thier life ot the fullest. You don't want to be morbidly obese and have health problems. Then that would interfere with your social life, how you feel about yourself, and how people will see you.

Easy answer.
1.) People are instinctively attracted to the most healthy so their offspring will be healthy and be able to survive in the world so we aren't generally attracted to fat or weak people. This issue dwells as far back as the beginning of man.
2.) Nobody wants to turn around and get stuck into some fat @$$.
-EDIT-
BUT! if you are happy being a fat ***, just dont give a sh!t what anyone else says, i commend those who are happy being fat. Live happily and die young, dont live miserably and live long.

It's about quality of life. Do you want to live your life fat and unhealthy, or healthy and fit and able to take advantage and participate in all that life has to offer, for however long you live?
That's a rhetorical question, dear. Don't bother to answer.

good question....I would say because this world has become sooo shallow and all it goes by is the media and whats on t.v nothing is about what is on the inside anymore. the media is corrupting our minds. we need to stop comparing ourselves to other people and realize we are not perfect and never will be.it's a never winning battle

There are things I want to accomplish before I die and if I don't keep healthy my time will run out before I reach my goals.

sure we're all going to die anyways, but we want to feel good while we're here...eating right and excercising is so much more than the benefit of looking better, it makes you feel better, more energy, beats depression, and illness. even though we're going to die, we don't want to feel like crap while we're alive. that would be a waste.

Subconsciously, its only a matter of appearance. They do, however, want to live as long as possible; death isn't a widely-accepted phenomenon amongst the humans, you see.
