Rome was renewed by HBO in September 2005 (see September 12, 2005 item in linked source).
Filming started in March, and the second season will air in 2007.

No Rome was not canceled they have started production of the second season already and it will premiere in 2007. This show rocks I love Rome!

Contrary to popular opinions: Rome was NOT cancelled and it was also NOT built in a day. Believe it or not, all roads DO NOT lead to Rome and it is NOT really an eternal city, much less THE Eternal City. Oh, could I be saying your question is about as trivial a query as one can imagine. Caveat emptor. Quod erat demonstratum. E pluribus unum. Cogito ergo sum. Everyone got tired of talking that way. Rome sort of petered out when they couldn't get anyone to run for emperor.
