I was four weeks pregnant at the time - I did not know I was pregnant. The x-rays were taken on the same day and they were taken of my knee and I had a led belt around my waist. What should I do? Can this harm the fetus?

I am five weeks now.

Don't worry, they put that lead vest on you for a reason. Chances are your baby didn't catch any stray rays. Even if it did, there is nothing you can do about it now... most likely 2 xrays so early on did not cause any problems... remember, at four weeks your baby tiny... the belt probably covered your little one. Best of Luck to you!

The amount of radiation given off during x-rays is actually quite minimal. Also you had led around you which shields you and ultimately your fetus from the radiation. You've got nothing to worry about!

The radiation is focused on the area they want to examine. It's extremely unlikely that the little radiation used for one set of xrays would do any harm, even without the lead shielding. Why not put your mind at rest by discussing it with your doctor?

The lead belt will be a great protector...when you call to schedule your first prenatal appt. make sure you let them know what happened...don't wait for the appt. tell them when you are on the phone. That way, if there are any concerns your doctor can address them right away.

Good luck and take care of yourself...hopefully your knee is okay and you are ready for a great pregnancy.

NO. Not if you wore that lead belt. That's why they put it whether you are pregnant or not. But if you were four weeks pregnant didn't you suspect pregnancy? You should have missed one period by that time.

No. The xrays are very focused and the lead would have caught any scatter radiation.

Your baby will be fine.

I had that done by a doctor who didn't just take a simple blood test first before xraying. I miscarried my baby.

I don't think it would hurt it otherwise the doctor wouldn't do it. I'm sure you and the baby will be fine...no need to worry :)
