They are called "collar stays".
If you turn up the collar to the man's shirt, you will see small slits on the underside to insert them into. Their purpose is to hold the collar in its original shape and keep it looking crisp and neat, instead of having the fabric and seaming become bent, which would leave the collar looking disheveled (which would be undesirable if the shirt were being worn either for a formal occasion or for business purposes, as it makes the man's dress look untidy and less professional).
They are removable so you can replace worn out collar stays with new ones when you need to.
Properly speaking you should remove them before washing and re-insert after drying, since cardboard stays will disintegrate in the wash and the plastic ones could warp from the heat of the dryer or the iron if you press the collar.

Them thingys are to keep the points of the shirt collar down. Otherwise they will curl up and stick you in the eye.
When I washed my own shirts, long time ago, I washed them in the shirts, and then used an iron to flatten them.

They're called stays and you take them out before the shirt is ever worn. Its part of the packaging for the shirts.

the things in a new shirt are just packaging, a woman and iron keeps them in form.

If you're talking about the things in the collar, they're there to keep the collar shaped and supported.

you mean the collar stays? yes, they keep the collar from getting bent in unsightly ways. i usually forget to take them out but sometimes they get lost in the wash. you should probably take them out and put them back in after drying/ironing.

if it's the ones that are pointy at one end, kind of tiny (no longer than your pinky) and flat--those are to keep the collar from curling up. yes, take them out or they'll end up getting lost,
