Depends on where you are. I rode scooters when I was in Bermuda, and in my opinion they're not safe above 20 mph because the balance is all wrong due to the small tires & high center of gravity. You have to balance it somewhat like a bicycle, so I wouldn't ride one any faster than you'd ride a bicycle. If you're planning to ride in a typical U.S. town or city, a small motorcycle would be a better choice.

If the last motor vehicle on the planet was a scooter....I'd keep on walking. Nothing says NERD to me like seeing some person on a scooter. Hey...you asked for an opinion. This is mine!

Yes. If ur worried about safety, dont get one. Worrying takes away your edge as a rider. Although there is nothing wrong with being a safety concious rider, a rider can't be afraid either.

Scooters are ok around town, but thats about it. Around campus, around the block. They get great gas mileage too. But I wouldnt be caught dead on one. Nerd-mobile.

Get a harley.

A scooter is only as safe as its driver. Remember there is nothing shielding you from other traffic and you are the smallest thing on the road. Other drivers may not see you even though they're looking right at you because it doesn't register. Be visible, lights and bright colors, and drive defensively.

Wear a helmet, knee and arm pads. It just depends on the type of scooter that would determine the riding ablity.

I personally think TANK scooters are the best. They run about $1200.00, depending on the model; can keep up with a car on the highway, excellent on gas mileage and stylish.
