Shakespeare is known for kind of creating the idea of true love. He believed that true love was a mixture of platonic love and lustful love, which may sound pretty normal to us, but was a relatively revolutionary thought during his time.

He used most of his plays to measure, record, and judge love. Othello showed what jealousy based on love will get you (Othello killed his lover because he thought she was having an affair). Romeo and Juliet was based on a pure love, which in the end brought two feuding (archenemy) families together. It can be seen throughout most of his plays.
