Four billion? (Four billion whats?) Oh, wait--I get it--yes, I think you're right. The number four billion has some intrinsic persuasiveness. Anyone who talks about anything in the low billions must be into information so vast I cannot possibly disagree. Billions, man. They're tough statistical stuff. Now, of course, there's always some vigintillion or gogolplex lurking out there waiting to whoop up on a billion even though the billion thinks he's pretty boss. Anyway. I guess people believe them because they, um, stuff, and non sequiturs, and lacunae, and such.

I guess it's because they themselves dont know the correct answer. And since you announce that number so quickly, they assume that you do know the correct answer. Otherwise, why why would you say that is the answer?
