Life is about losing what you love. You can't help it. If you never got another pet, it would be like not going to the movies because eventually the movie will be over and you'll have to leave. Think about it. By loving pets we open ourselves to the pain of loss, but they give us so much more that is positive in return.

The sad fact is that pets just do not live as long as we do. - We just had a dog die. It is horrible and it hurts but we went to a rescue and got another dog right away.
When my cat (16Yo) died in September I was devestated, but I went out and got three cats from a cat rescue.
You can't replace the pet that dies, you can however ease your suffering and help another pet in the process. The new pet will be different but will enrich your life (maybe in a different way) just as much as the last pet.

Get a turtle! Those things live for a long time. Up to 50+ years!!
Parrots live for quite a while, if taken good care of.
Maybe you should try a different approach. Like maybe buying alot of plants and watering those everyday. Haha. Umm.. Or like the person above me said.. Just get an electric dog.. Or some sort of robotic animal. Theyre actually pretty cool! haha.

death is a part of life, it comes with the territory. you can't shield yourself from death unless you want to live all alone as a hermit with not contact to anything living. death hurts & it sucks, but the memories of the happiness that you can give to a pet is everlasting. don't stop being a ~responsible~ pet owner just because it's going to die someday. there are so many animals out there that need loving homes.

two things: perhaps you could volunteer some time to the local animal pound or pet shop? perhaps you could offer pet services for ppl who go on vacation? maybe visit the zoo and start scrap book on the different animals and perhaps they would get used to seeing you...dunno
but what i do know..the pets you did have you offered them love and care right? so maybe later on you could go to the pound and offer more love to another...you cant escape loss in your life unfortunately- but you can learn to cope better..get a less responsive pet like bird or fish vs cat dog etc....hope this helps

you should get yourself another pet. Just don't buy the same breed. You will love this new pet. You need to buy something totally different. You can not replace your beloved pet. but you can start totally different. Don't be alone.

Ladybugewa gave a really good answer. The joys of owning pets should outweigh the pain of losing them.

get a parrot. they can live for 70 years or so. but i`d have to agree with most everyone else and say that animals enrich our lives and give back more than they take. losing them hurts.. a lot but I could`nt imagine life without them.
