Because babies are babies. What I mean by that is they don't have a care in the world. Everyone takes care of everything that they need. Now grown up people have a lot of worries and trials and tribulations. Be it relationships, financial, whatever. When they say they slept like a baby it's just good sleep.

Because babies at a certain age will sleep thru the night, and that is just an expression people have used for a very long time.

Not all babies wake up every two hours.
The term "I slept like a baby" just means someone enjoyed their nap or sleep.

I think they are referring to the baby sleeping peacefully with no worries or concerns, since a healthy baby hopefully only wakes up if he/she needs a diaper change or a feeding.

Make a loud noise next to a baby and he will most likely not wake up. Now be reasonable, don't set off an atomic bomb next to them. I think that would wake them

Because babies go to sleep and sleep. No fretting or worrying for them. they wake for a change, a bottle, or their nap is out.
How many adults do you know that do that?

Because once they do sleep through the night they sleep so wonderfully. They do not usually have the stress and nightmares and tossing and waking up etc.

Because babies usually sleep very soundly - they have no problems - no guilt - so they probably don't even dream. It's not the length of time, but how well you sleep
