We are no danger to marraige. We simply want equal treatment. Civil marriage is completely different than religious marriage. We also decided a while ago in this country that separate but equal is inherently unequal, thus calling it something other than marriage doesn't work. And the funny thing...I can still get a religious marriage, and will when the time is right. I've got a very respected minister (locally) lined up already. So...that already rules out the religious part anyway. Civil marriage shouldn't even consider religion.

And while God created men and women to procreate, that isn't our sole purpose. Also, that passage only mentions that they should be joined to make one flesh. It doesn't really mention formal marriage. Second note: if you want to argue that we shouldn't be able to get married because we can't procreate, then fertility should also be a requisite for marriage and those who cannot reproduce should not be able to be wed. Do you see how absurd that statement is? Third, we only ask that the right to marry be extended to any two consenting adults. This still prevents polygamy and the other absurd "slippery slope" arguments such as a man marrying his dog.

We'll be making a step in the right direction when we can separate church and state and pay more attention to science.

Obviously we are going to disagree on this. However, I will respectfully submit my reason as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Even though I fully disagree with homosexuality, if two people want to be recognized as committed to each other that's not as big of deal to me. Just don't call it "marriage"...that's where I have the problem.

Since you asked, the term marriage was defined by God (and if not by God as you might feel, at least it was defined by those who wrote the Bible). Either way, it was defined as between a Man and a Woman in Genesis 2:24 "24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." (NIV)

There are a bunch of reasons I can share for why it endangers marriage. I found an article on an anti-gay marriage site that sums it all up but these are not only anti-gay views. In many cases they are the views of pro-gay, anti-gay marriage folks.

1) It's not a big deal.
2) I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to.
3) It doesn't endanger marriage- this is a good example of straight people whining about others getting "special" rights, when they want to legislate it into law that only straight people should be allowed to marry. If this is not an exmaple of special rights, I don't know what is.

Marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Marriage is the foundation of the family. 2 men/2 women cannot create a child (procreate). God created marriage for the purpose of procreation and providing a basis for family life. Gay couples cannot procreate. God says a man shall not lie with a man. Just look at all the trials and tribulations of gay couples who "have children." One of them is the biological parent (in many cases). A lesbian is artificially inseminated. Gay men use a surrogate mother with one of them donating his sperm. Both parties feel as if they are parents. Yet the non-biological parent has no legal standing when they split up. God knows what He's doing. Why mess with that?

I think that some people think that if we could get married then that we will want to marry not only someone of the same sex but something like a goat!! Crazys!!

I think that we should be able to get married, it won't hurt anybody.

The religious right wants to control and inflict its views on the entire population. Not only that, but what it says in the bible shouldn't matter when it comes to laws.

1. We need rights for our partners

2. Because we are American citizens and we have rights

3. It does not. Bisexuals get married all the time. Look at Elizabeth Talor how many times has she been married? Now ask your self how can we hurt marrige; its already been done!!!!!!

I think they should be able to get married.

It wouldn't endanger marriage, just the definition of what some closed minded people think marrige should be.

I'm Canadian--it's legal here and a few other countries...it's hardly destroyed the moral fabric of society...I think people against it should grow up and get a life.
