They seem to be breeding more all the time. I know of Abyssinian, American, Peruvian, Silkie (Sheltie), Teddy (Rex), Alpaca, Texel, Coronet, and the "White-crested" and "Satin" versions of these breeds. Are there any more?

I know this may sound crazy, but the American Rabbit Breeders Association would be the correct organization to ask. They set the show standards and determine what breeds get recognized in the United States for both rabbits and cavies (guinea pigs). They can be contacted at www.arba.net.

There are also "skinny" pigs, or hairless guinea pigs. I do not think the ACBA recognizes them, however. They have weakened immune systems and do not live as long as "normal" guinea pigs.
