I had a chicken lay a really bloody egg and the rooster has been dead 4 a year now. I also checked if I had any other roosters in there but I dont think there is.

I think that a hen can lay fertilized eggs for 2-3 months. The blood will develop after the egg has been incubated for several days.

I couldn't reply, your email isn't confirmed.
I live 2 states south of there. But I bet your Aunt would like to hear from you.

No, it's not possible. Just because it is bloody doesn't mean it is fertile. You have to candle an egg to check to see if the egg is fertile. You candle an egg by holding it up to a light. The easiest way to do this is to cut a hole about the size of a half dollar in a Pringle's can and place the can over a light bulb. Then hold the egg up to the hole in the bottom of the can. If you've had it in an incubator for a week or so or under a hen for a week or so and it looks mainly yellow inside when you candle it. It isn't fertile. Sometimes they will develop blood vessels inside, but you don't truly know it is fertile till you see a little black dot inside either indicating the hear or the eye. Sometimes their will be two black dots.

after 3-4 weeks the eggs would no longer come out fertile.but the chicken doesnt know that and will still sit on them if she`s broody.I had a hen sit on a nest for 2 months once, thought she`d give up, but she just kept sitting. finally I switched her eggs out with some fertile ones, and she sat for another 3 weeks or so until those ones did hatch.guess she was determined to become a mother no matter what! also, if you did have a rooster in there, you`d know it by now, cause you`d hear him crowing. (want one of mine? they`re driving me nuts!)

No....after about 30 days she would have layed all of the fertilized eggs....a bloody egg is not uncommon....it is just a fluke of nature....something didn't develop right.

A bloody egg does not mean a fertilized egg, but you know your chicken may be cheating on you!
