Liberalism is an ideology, philosophy, and political tradition that holds liberty as the primary political value.[1] Broadly speaking, liberalism seeks a society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, especially of government and religion, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of minorities are guaranteed. In modern society, liberals favour a liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law and an equal opportunity to succeed[2]. Liberalism rejected many foundational assumptions which dominated most earlier theories of government, such as the Divine Right of Kings, hereditary status, and established religion. Fundamental human rights that all liberals support include the right to life, liberty, and property. In many countries, "modern" liberalism differs from classical liberalism by asserting that government provision of some minimal level of material well-being takes priority over freedom from taxation. Liberalism has its roots in the Western Enlightenment, but the term now encompasses a diversity of political thought, with adherents spanning a large part of the political spectrum, from left to right. In the context of economics, the term "liberalism" refers to economic liberalism, which is associated with the political ideology of liberalism itself.

Someone who has an open mind. And no, liberals don't ask for the government to control every aspect of your lives. That's what republicans do.

This is way out of the way for this question but nevertheless here are a few examples:
1. Anti -abortion legislation: government trying to control whether a woman's body and her decision to give birth or not.
2. Same sex marriage ban: government trying to control who an individual loves or marries.
3. Wire-tapping etc: government trying to directly or indirectly monitor your phone calls and other communications.
4. The Patriot Act: this could make a whole chapter. I have no desire to type for that long. Look up Wikipedia
5. Tax breaks to the rich: government trying to financially restrict you. If you make less money then the ratio of the money you pay as taxes to the money you need to live comfortably is much bigger. This limits your financial freedom and that limits many other kinds of freedoms.
6. Calling dissidents unpatriotic: government trying to take away your freedom of speech and expression if you disagree with them. If you agree however, you are fine.
7. Teaching disguised religion and creationism in schools: government trying to control your religious and spiritual beliefs. There are other religions that don't believe in Christian creationism but are they represented in the (un)intelligent design theory? No.

So which side is trying to put these controls on the people? The liberals or the conservatives?

In the end you pay taxes anyways, doesn't matter who is in power. With a liberal government, the money comes back to the society. With a conservative government the money flows out of your pocket into the pockets of the super rich.

In the end the middle class and poor republicans are the ones who are the losers. They are voting based on "religious" and "social" issues while the real republicans, the rich people, are reaping the benefits, which are mostly financial.

The communist wing of the Democratic party. They don't like rich people, because they want everyone to be the same, poor. They love to give out free government handouts to bribe the poor to vote for them. The more poor people they can create, the more power the liberals gain. Liberals are usually misinformed about every political issue. They have no clue about world economics or how a business makes a profit. They encourage people to stay at home and get food stamps while they raise taxes to pay for it.

Liberals are in favor of the killing of innocent unborn babies, but not terrorists that cut people's heads off with rusty knives. They believe that the mentally handicapped should be starved to death as Terry Shivo, but a murderer should live. They hate Christianity, but believe we should be tolerant of other religions. They love gay people and poor people, but not as much as animals. They claim to be non racists, but never tell the truth about how the first Republican president, Abe Lincoln freed the slave. The KKK was founded by members of the Democratic Party, while the NAACP was founded by members of the Republican Party. The organization they love to side with the most is the ACLU, it was founded by the American Communist Party.
Liberals say the Republicans are rich, but Billionaire John Kerry is worth 167 times as much money as Bush. Everything a liberal does hurts the economy. When they demand higher wages, they end up making the factory go bankrupt or force them to move jobs out of the country. They can't understand why Bush's tax cuts have helped the economy tremendously or why it actually caused the tax revenue to increase to a record high two months ago.

Liberals (particulary the white liberals in charge of the democrat party) think that some government must write a guideline for everything as people are too stupid to figure it out themselves. Conservatives think people are smarter than government.

Liberals oppose killing the guilty criminals and gleefully support the holocaust against the unborn innocent child. Conservatives support killing the terminally incurable criminals and oppose killing innocent babies.

Liberals are against personal responsibility and argue that criminals are really victims of society. Conservatives think the government should leave people alone and think criminals are actually criminals.

Liberals are generous, but only with other people's money which they steal via taxes. Conservatives are generous with their own money and want people to keep more of their own money.

Liberals love big government, just like the fascists/nazis and communists do. Conservatives (real ones) oppose big government.

Liberals think that people can somehow stop climate change. Conservatives know climate change is a natural phenomenon.

Liberals love dictators like Mao, Stalin, Castro and Saddam. Conservatives oppose these same dictators.

First- Take money from some to give to others
Second - restrict the constitutional rights
Third - Have Government Control all aspects of life

Not much difference between the Conservatives -

They are both two sides of the same bad coin

We need a centrist party for reasonable Moderates

‘Liberal’ is a derogatory term used for political purposes.

Negative uses of both Liberal and Neocon are nothing short of political pandering to the lowest common denominators. Incite a group of people to shout ugly slogans and get them into a fight, right?

NOTE: In 2002, the GOP hired several hundred vacationing college students to go across the internet, to message boards and the like, just to stir up trouble. It looks like they are at it again.

Iintend to report each of these posts to Yahoo Answers.

Personally, I dislike all politicians and parties. They are all equally dishonest.
