Violin is awesome and fun. Its something you can brag about and has a very wide range for songs.
Clarinets are good too, but they are really a "highschool instrument". Unless you become very serious about it, its not very likely you will play it later on in life. Violins you will because they are so cool (and expensive).
Enjoy the violin!

I think the violin is better, because the clarinet seems a little too simple for me. When you start with the violin, then it's a little boring, but later on, when you get much better, you'll enjoy it a lot more.
Long story short, I'd stick with the violin. You don't want to waste all that effort you gave with the violin.
Or, you could try both.

I played the violin from grades 8-10. It actually can be quite a bit of fun to play. It's not as difficult as Clarinet, and also, if you're interested in any other string instruments, the finger positions are a little easier to figure out. For example, I can fiddle around and figure out the majority of bass guitar lines thanks to my knowledge of the violin. There isn't really any huge advantage to either one. If you feel you need to switch, see if you're able to. If not, stick with violin for now and see how you like it, then switch when you get the chance if you really don't like it.

Violin, it is the best way to make an awesome living after you get out of college! If you are a well disciplined person and practice tons and are considered good, you will never have to look for work ever. You will always have a job with a Symphony Orchestra anywhere you choose to live. Any instrument is an awesome choice to make but violin is more highly sought after. Good luck and don't forget to practice often.

Clarinet. Unless you really like the violin, but it sounds like you're bored of it. Plus if you're not very good at the violin it's painful for others to listen to if they have a "good ear". I cringe when I hear bad violinists. Clarinet is fun and you can play in band.

Violin. It's so versatile! You can play the violin to classical music, hip-hop, or jazz. The clarinet played with anything other than classical will sound like karaoke.

You should play the clarinet because it takes less time to learn to play it, then the violin.

Why not do both orchestra and band? My daughter is in both, playing the clarinet and the violin.
