Why is the softball for girls soft, and big anyways? (I don't play it, just want to know)

I think you are thinking about a mush ball! I have played "soft"ball for 26 years, and have broken many fingers and many bruises from being hit, I am a catcher. I can guarantee you it is hard and hurts when we get hit. I do not know why they are bigger, I guess if they were the same size we would be playing baseball.

the ball is harder than a baseball. it's not soft. Try playing fast pitch softball. it's hard to hit.

It's easier to pitch a larger ball underhanded and control it.

the same reason women's basketballs are smaller...different game than the male counterpart...some say softballs are bigger because they are easier to hit; i disagree.
