that quote reminds me of what i've been thinking recently; if we have expectations then we will experience suffering - we all can't live up to others expectations, let alone our own expectations. this same idea could be easily applied with hope. just because we have hope does not ensure that things will happen the way we "hope" for them to. i have to believe that hope brings other things besides just despair, but i wont deny that hope can indeed bring despair. but what is worse, a society living in the hands of tragedy or a society living without hope for anything?

Well, I don't think I can agree with it. I mean, it's an interesting thought and it's put elegantly, but I don't think hope brings despair.

Of course, it would depend on what we happen to hope for, wouldn't it? So it's not HOPE itself that brings despair, but US when we hope for things we shouldn't be hoping for. An example? Greed. We may hope for more and more and more money, but that's a selfish attitude. We shouldn't be hoping for it. THAT is the mistake. Not knowing what to hope for.

Selfless hope can only bring joy and peace of mind.

Does it make any sense? :)

That's just plain wrong. Why should hope bring despair? If it weren't for hope we wouldn't get anywhere at all! Hope moves us forward. If you don't believe in yourself then you will be afraid to hope and you will always despair but that is because of fear, not hope! Fear will stop you in your tracks but hope will lead you on to bigger and better things.

I'd say the lack of hope brings a lot more despair.

Despair is a small price to pay for hope.

This is the crux and paradox of human tragedy and leads to my greatest fears. Thabks for the quote-its something i've been searching for.

Faith as a grain of mustard seed. ye shall move mountains, YOU NEED TO TAKE THAT LITERALLY, if the rocks of the everlasting struggle begin to dissipate, just remember this phrase and they will act like the trembling mountain and fear will be not something you attract, but something that you see yourself flinging around with flirtatiously, i love you my friend
