ok, please read this: vote for Cando's answer, he is the first person to get it correct. The reason you are getting so many different answers is because people are confusing bit with bytes. ...it's really simple, a Gig is exactly 2^30 of whatever, and since you want a gig of Bytes (not bits), and a bit is 8 bits (or 2^3), then you are looking at 2^20 kilobytes or 2^23 kilobits.
The problem comes when people want to answer your question and google kb to gb or some such and dont know that kb = kiloBIT, KB = kiloBYTE ...profs always throw this little capitalization thing at you during tests, so look out for it...and know the conversions
math:
GB / KB = ( 2^3 * 2^30 ) / (2^3 * 2^10) = 2^13 / 2^33 = 2^20 = 1,048,576 bytes ....done

Kilo = 1000
Giga = 1000000000
So, there are 1000000 K in a G.
Computers do this a little differently, so it goes by powers of 2 instead of powers of 10.
1Kb = 2^10 bytes = 1024 bytes
1Gb = 2^30 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes

Actually, there are 1000 kilobytes in a megabyte, and 1000 megabytes in a gigabyte, which makes the answer to your question 1,000,000. That's a whole lot. Here is a link to a handy converter.

1 GB = 1000MB
1 MB = 1000KB
1 GB = 1,000,000KB (ideally)
1 GB = 1,048,576KB (realistically)

1,000,000 kilobytes (1,000 x 1,000,000 = 1,000,000,000)
1 KB = 1,000 bytes
1 MB = 1,000 KB = 1,000,000 bytes
1 GB = 1,000 MB = 1,000,000,000 bytes
